{"id":117,"date":"2006-11-27T18:17:00","date_gmt":"2006-11-27T17:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blueventures.org\/blog\/?p=117"},"modified":"2006-11-27T18:17:00","modified_gmt":"2006-11-27T17:17:00","slug":"new-james-bond-flick-brings-blue-ventures-alum-to-the-big-screen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.blueventures.org\/en\/new-james-bond-flick-brings-blue-ventures-alum-to-the-big-screen\/","title":{"rendered":"New James Bond flick brings Blue Ventures alum to the big screen"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">The new James Bond flick, Casino Royale, brings 007 to <st1:country-region><st1:place>Madagascar<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> for his first mission, and a former Blue Ventures staff member to the big screen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Eric Jaona, a Malagasy national and former translator with Blue Ventures, provided background voices to several scenes in the spy thriller.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Early in the film, Bond is sent to <st1:country-region><st1:place>Madagascar<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> to track down terrorist spies. At one point, he chases the villain through a market where locals yell and cheer as they wager on a fight between a cobra and a mongoose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Jaona was brought in to provide an authentic Malagasy voice for the scene. Jaona, who lives in <st1:city><st1:place>London<\/st1:place><\/st1:City>, didn\u2019t travel all the way to <st1:country-region><st1:place>Madagascar<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> for the film, but recorded the background voice in a <st1:city><st1:place>London<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> sound studio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">\u201cWe first watched all the scenes and then we recorded the voices, working from a script,\u201d Jaona said. \u201cMy friends say they can hear my voice in the film, but there are a lot of people talking during the scene.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">The film unfortunately does not show any of <st1:country-region><st1:place>Madagascar<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>\u2019s beautiful natural areas \u2013 instead Bond is seen running through a market and a construction site \u2013 <span style=\"\"> <\/span>but Jaona said he is glad the film is bringing new attention to the island nation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">\u201cEven in <st1:country-region><st1:place>Madagascar<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, they have put together a marketing campaign around the film,\u201d he said. \u201cThey say <st1:country-region><st1:place>Madagascar<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> is the <st1:place><st1:placetype>island<\/st1:PlaceType> of <st1:placename>James   Bond<\/st1:PlaceName><\/st1:place>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><st1:country-region><st1:place>Madagascar<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> is the world\u2019s fourth largest island, and is home to some of the world\u2019s most biologically diverse marine habitats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">These habitats, however, are facing growing threats as populations increase along coastal areas and more and more fishing companies discover the richness of <st1:country-region><st1:place>Madagascar<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>\u2019s waters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\"><o:p> <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Blue Ventures is working with local communities to protect these threatened resources and develop alternative livelihoods to destructive fishing practices.
