{"id":1210,"date":"2011-05-18T11:55:34","date_gmt":"2011-05-18T10:55:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bvblog.wpengine.com\/?p=1210"},"modified":"2023-08-23T13:23:17","modified_gmt":"2023-08-23T12:23:17","slug":"samba-getty-scholars-and-committee-meet-to-review-academic-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.blueventures.org\/en\/samba-getty-scholars-and-committee-meet-to-review-academic-progress\/","title":{"rendered":"Samba-Getty scholars and committee meet to review academic progress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Toliara, southwest Madagascar, on the 28<sup>th<\/sup> of April 2011, the IHSM (Institut Halieuteque et des Sciences Marines)\u00a0successfully played host to the first meeting for all students supported by the &#8220;Roger Samba \u2013 J Paul Getty&#8221; fellowship programme.\u00a0 As well as the students from the years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, attendees included Mr Samber Roger (winner of the Leadership in Conservation award, 2008), Shawn Peabody (Blue Ventures Conservation Coordinator), Jacqueline Razanoelisoa (head of the training department at the IHSM), and Gaetan Tovondrainy (WWF Project Coordinator in southwest Madagascar).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.blueventures.org\/2011\/05\/18\/samba-getty-scholars-and-committee-meet-to-review-academic-progress\/sony-dsc\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1211\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1211 lazyload\" title=\"SONY DSC\" data-src=\"http:\/\/blog.blueventures.org\/media\/Getty-students-385x257.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"385\" height=\"257\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 385px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 385\/257;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The meeting was held in order to assess the Scholars\u2019 progress in terms of research and academic achievement whilst also acting as an opportunity for the committee and students to meet and exchange experiences.\u00a0 Mr. Roger took the floor to encourage the students to take an active interest in natural resource management, expressing his hope that these students will follow in his footsteps to become conservation leaders in Madagascar.<\/p>\n<p>The grantees expressed their gratitude towards the \u201cRoger Samba &amp; J.
