center;\">Welcome to the Benthic Test<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A sea of colours, shapes and crests<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Urchins, sponges, coral and algae<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Tunicates, \u2018trolls hair\u2019 and the cowrie<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Starting with soft coral whips and rods<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I start to think I can beat the odds<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018Plumes\u2019 and \u2018fans\u2019 all simple enough<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Yet after this, the going gets tough<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">When the going gets tough, the tough get going<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And hard coral species come\u00a0ever flowing<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018Porites\u2019, \u2018acroporia\u2019 and \u2018favidae\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">All their names so difficult to say.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.blueventures.org\/2011\/06\/27\/science-schooling\/soft-corals-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1320\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1320 lazyload\" title=\"coral_poemblog\" data-src=\"http:\/\/blog.blueventures.org\/media\/soft-corals1-288x385.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"385\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 288px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 288\/385;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I decide common names are easier to muster,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Yet \u2018fingers\u2019 and \u2018pencils\u2019 get me into a fluster!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018Boulder\u2019, \u2018mountainous\u2019 and \u2018knobby\u2019 brain,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Under the water, they all seem the same.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Our lovely scientists are Jen and Nikkita<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Enthusiastic, patient and both great teachers<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We learn about polps and ID hints<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Septa, mouths and family links<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The other volunteers have some helpful tips<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u201cLook for the ridges and the luscious lips\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I continue to struggle with all of the names<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Yet am helped by our scientists and coral games<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The day of the test has finally arrived<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And as we descend, my fears subside<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Armed with my slate and pencil in hand<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I\u2019m ready to respond to Nikkita\u2019s demands!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Top student, Clara, gets a perfect score<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But as we go on, I forget a few more<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I turn to Dan a few metres away<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But he\u2019s now mesmerised by an eagle-ray<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I stop to watch her majestic flight<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Passing the test now out of my sight<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Although unsuccessful, what a great dive!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But to conquer coral, I continue to strive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:
