All the better for feeling better"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 12px; \">Thursday 13th December 2007<br \/>Coco Beach, Andavadoaka<br \/>18:52 (UK), 21:52 (Madagascar)<\/p>\n<p>Firstly, I&#8217;d like to say hi to Fiona&#8217;s dad if he is reading this. \u00a0Thanks<br \/>for listening in! \u00a0Now for the update:<\/p>\n<p>After feeling like death for 2 days and having half a day completely in bed,<br \/>with toilet dashes, I am better and feeling fantastic for it. \u00a0Everything is<br \/>great now. \u00a0Once your world has been rendered insignificant due to some<br \/>raging bacterial battle going on somewhere between your oesophagus and lower<br \/>ileum, when it final appears again it looks amazing.<\/p>\n<p>I thought a walk would kill me off yesterday, but after a 2 hour walk from<br \/>camp to the only spot in a 40km radius with signal for mobile I started to<br \/>feel remarkable better, and today have been very nearly normal. \u00a0It is great<br \/>to be back here; and really great to meet all the Blue Ventures staff and<br \/>volunteers here. \u00a0It feels like I am finally getting to understand the<br \/>workings of an organisation I helped to set up and have been working for on<br \/>and off for the last 4 years. \u00a0Every minute I am enjoying at the moment, and<br \/>I have finally gotten over the heat. \u00a0So it appears everything has come at once<br \/>\u2013 getting better, sun burn decreasing in intensity, really enjoying the food<br \/>and generally getting acclimatised. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The best thing about being here is that you can find the space to get away<br \/>from everyone and everything- you can find a spot on a beach or in the spiny<br \/>forest where you can\u2019t hear anyone or see anything that has to do with a<br \/>human. \u00a0That is when I am at my most happiest. \u00a0Despite it being great to<br \/>get my own space the last few days have also shown me how much I enjoy being<br \/>with people and how good it is to be around the other BV staff \u2013 most of whom<br \/>I have never met before &#8211; along with the volunteers &#8211; whom i am enjoying<br \/>getting to know also.<\/p>\n<p>The BV staff here have helped me understand more how, from London, I<br \/>can work best with the team here. \u00a0I hope that by me being here they will<br \/>understand more fully the needs and demands of BVCO also. \u00a0They are also a<br \/>lot of fun and I am now wishing that I was staying for Christmas.<br \/>I have to get to Morondava though for work, and to meet with the project<br \/>leader there.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is another issue with Christmas in Andavadoaka \u2013 I have got quite<br \/>attached to the turkey that they intend to eat. \u00a0\u201cStuffing\u201d, as it is<br \/>called, &#8211; is incredibly dog like, so much so that it follows our field<br \/>scientist Tristan around and even tried to come manta towing with him today<br \/>(possibly not the most suitable occupation for a turkey); it waits for you<br \/>outside the toilet and lives on the porch of the very person that is going<br \/>to eat him for Christmas. \u00a0My attachment with this turkey makes it hard for<br \/>me to stay to witness its death. \u00a0But I guess it has had a very long life<br \/>(it is an eldery turkey) and has definitely had a good last couple of weeks<br \/>roaming Coco beach and eating rice and beans. \u00a0Still, something inside of me<br \/>wants to break it free.<\/p>\n<p>Work continues, and Larissa is due to arrive on Sunday \u2013 it will be an<br \/>intense 4 days of stove work next week. \u00a0The best thing about work here is<br \/>that it is started by a morning swim in the sea grass shallows amongst the<br \/>needlefish and goatfish followed by breakfast in good company and a mango!<br \/>What more can one ask for? \u00a0I can\u2019t think of anything at all!<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 12px;
