I manage to grab my alarm \u00a0before it goes off \u2013 my hut mate gets<br \/>\ncranky enough when I\u2019m up at 7 \u2013 and stumble around a bit, looking for<br \/>\nrash vests and bits of my camera, wishing I\u2019d kept a can of energy<br \/>\ndrink. After chocolate and cigarettes (I\u2019m not a great morning person)<br \/>\nI attempt cheeriness upon entering the Batcave (the boat hut). I force myself into a<br \/>\nslightly damp wetsuit and at this point I\u2019m glad I bought a 5mm. We<br \/>\nhad set up kit and had our dive briefing the night before, so it was<br \/>\njust a matter of waking up \u2013 fairly easy when Bic, the Dive Manager, has enough energy<br \/>\nfor everyone \u2013 and remembering to turn our air on again<\/p>\n<p>The stumble down to Andava beach was worth it just to see Marcellin, the boat driver, in<br \/>\na fetching orange balaclava. Unfortunately we didn\u2019t get to carry Jen<br \/>\nonto the boat (as boat marshall \u2013 this blog is payment for her getting<br \/>\nup and looking after us) which would have been amusing. It was a great<br \/>\nride out to Nearshore Coco and the phosphorescence in our boat wake<br \/>\nwas very pretty. After a little bit of worrying about the temperature,<br \/>\nand the possibility of being picked off by sharks on the surface, we<br \/>\nrolled back and descended.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.blueventures.org\/2010\/06\/30\/the-sun-came-up-just-as-we-did\/anemone\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-708\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-708 lazyload\" title=\"Anemone\" data-src=\"http:\/\/blog.blueventures.org\/media\/Anemone-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/200;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was slightly chaotic, with everyone trying to stick very close<br \/>\ntogether; there were a lot of people on their first night dive. We<br \/>\nseemed to cover the whole site twice, moving a lot to keep warm and to<br \/>\nfind something exciting to point our torches at. This mission was<br \/>\nsuccessful. Apart from the expected plethora of soldierfish, sparkly<br \/>\nplankton and hard corals with their polyps on show, there was a nice<br \/>\narray of crabs \u2013 a big, tasty looking red one and lots of hermits with<br \/>\nanemones on their shells. We saw an electric ray and got rather close<br \/>\nuntil we realised it wasn\u2019t, in fact, harmless. Then there was the<br \/>\nstonefish, munching on a squirrelfish. I could hear Bic giggling into<br \/>\nhis regulator because he thought it was smiling, although I can\u2019t say<br \/>\nI saw that.<\/p>\n<p>The sun came up just as we did, with beautiful, amazing colours. After<br \/>\na slightly chillier ride back I ran up the beach in full gear trying<br \/>\nto warm up; we\u2019ve all got a lot wussier while we\u2019ve been here!<br \/>\nLuckily, rather than spending the hour or so before breakfast having a<br \/>\nfairly pointless nap, we all headed over to Bic\u2019s for banana pancakes.<br \/>\nAlmost better than the dive, it woke me up more, particularly with a<br \/>\nMars Bar pancake and unbelievable coffee (pretty sure it was strained<br \/>\nthrough a sock \u2013 that\u2019s what it looked like).<\/p>\n<p>So now I\u2019m still processing the sugar and about to go on the 9am dive<br \/>\nto Mah \u2013 my last dive, and hopefully a great way to end my time in<br \/>\nAndava.
