fullscreen\" allowfullscreen src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In coastal communities in the southwest of Madagascar only one in three children go to school, and most do not make it beyond primary level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For more than ten years, Blue Ventures has supported young people in the Velondriake locally managed marine area (LMMA) in their education through school scholarships.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"pull-right\">Thanks to your generosity we&#8217;re currently supporting 272 students with their education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our school scholarships fund is entirely dependent on individual donors, and thanks to their generosity we are supporting 272 students this school year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">253 of these students are in the Velondriake LMMA: 10 in primary school, 159 in middle school, 71 in high school, and 13 at university.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are also supporting 19 students in the adjacent Manjaboake LMMA, \u00a0thanks to an extraordinary fundraising effort by sisters Annabelle and Flora Wallace.<\/span><\/p>\n<div data-carousel-extra='{\"blog_id\":1,\"permalink\":\"https:\\\/\\\/blog.blueventures.org\\\/en\\\/back-to-school-time\\\/\"}' class=\"tiled-gallery type-rectangular\" data-original-width=\"900\"><div class=\"gallery-row\" style=\"width: 895px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 444\/296;\" \/><\/a><div class=\"tiled-gallery-caption\">Photo: Garth Cripps<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before the start of the school year, we organised a meeting for everyone involved in the scholarship programme: the scholars themselves, their parents, education officers from the village associations, the directors of the nine schools we work with, and our own education team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every scholar and their parents signed a contract in which the children commit themselves not only to be diligent in school and have good behavior, but also to participate in external educational activities.
