A small number of international volunteers took part in a regular programme of English teaching sessions for locals involved in eco-tourism ventures. Whilst it was difficult to plan and prepare sessions due to lack of teaching experience and time, they were well attended by small groups of locals who were enthusiastic and keen for as many sessions per week as possible.
We went through relevant and useful topics such as introductions, talking about family, food, accommodation, clothing, the sea and sea creatures, baobabs and mangroves. The primary aim was to improve spoken English and understanding. The best sessions were those where we had a game or used materials to make learning more interesting.
